IOM X: Trusted Information for Migrants

IOM X, the IOM and USAID campaign against human trafficking and exploitation, needed wider reach for videos launched by Myanmar's Ministry of Labour that pointed migrants to trustworthy digital information. Ruder Finn Era organised a media launch with government, IOM and USAID spokespeople, generating 61 online clippings, 10 broadcast clips and USD 52,800 in earned media value.

The challenge

IOM X is a regional campaign to prevent human trafficking and exploitation, sponsored by the International Organization for Migration and USAID. In Myanmar, where large numbers of people migrate for work, it sought to highlight the digital platforms available to migrants seeking trustworthy information before they travel.

A series of videos had been launched by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, but the government and IOM X needed the message to reach far beyond the launch audience if it was to protect the people most at risk.

Our solution

Ruder Finn Era, then ERA Communications, saw that the coalition behind the campaign was itself the story. A launch event was designed to give Myanmar media the presentations and the people at once, with key spokespeople from the government, IOM and USAID available for interview.

The team invited and managed the national media so that the videos and the digital platforms were covered across online and broadcast outlets, extending the reach of the campaign's platforms to the migrant communities and families who needed them.

The results

61online clippings
USD 52.8kearned media value
10broadcast media clips

The launch generated 61 online clippings and 10 broadcast pieces, worth USD 52,800 in earned media value for a public safety message.
