L'Oreal Paris Makeup: Parisian Beauty, Cambodian Faces
L'Oreal Paris wanted its makeup range in Cambodia to feel locally relevant without losing its Paris-inspired image. Ruder Finn Era produced a localised photoshoot featuring Cambodian beauty pageant talents instead of global models, including a talent who had won an international title days earlier, creating digital visuals that strengthened local relatability while keeping the brand premium.
The challenge
Global campaign imagery gives L'Oreal Paris Makeup its aspirational, Paris-inspired identity, but in Cambodia it can feel distant from the women the brand wants to reach. The brand needed digital visuals that resonated more strongly with local audiences while maintaining the fashionable, premium image that makes the brand desirable in the first place.
The challenge was one of balance: local representation strong enough to build relatability, aspiration strong enough to stay true to the brand.
Our solution
Ruder Finn Era proposed a talent-led approach rather than a straight adaptation of global assets. The team cast carefully selected Cambodian beauty pageant talents who combined strong local relatability with the poise and polish of the brand's Paris-inspired image, and managed the talent relationships and photoshoot end to end.
Timing added relevance: the lead talent had won an international beauty title just days before the shoot, giving the campaign a live cultural hook and a stronger aspirational connection with local consumers.
The results
The localised visuals enhanced audience connection and relatability toward the L'Oreal Paris Makeup line while preserving its premium, fashionable image, strengthening brand relevance in the Cambodian market.
