Stop TB Partnership Indonesia: Launching AIDP for a TB-Free ASEAN

Stop TB Partnership Indonesia, the ASEAN Foundation and USAID engaged Ruder Finn Era to launch the Airborne Infection Defense Platform (AIDP) at the 16th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting. The team managed the inauguration event and localised media relations across ten ASEAN countries, generating 153 pieces of coverage, half in tier-one media, all positive.

The challenge

Tuberculosis remains one of ASEAN's most persistent public health burdens, and the pandemic exposed how little regional infrastructure exists for airborne infection defence. The Airborne Infection Defense Platform was created to strengthen TB response, health systems and pandemic preparedness across the bloc, and its launch had one chance to establish that mandate.

The inauguration was scheduled as a side event of the 16th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting in Laos on 8 August 2024, with health ministers and senior officials in the room. AIDP's leadership needed a partner that could manage a high-profile multilateral event and land the news in ten countries and languages on the same day.

Our solution

Ruder Finn Era worked for three clients on this launch: Stop TB Partnership Indonesia, the ASEAN Foundation and USAID. The strategy treated the launch as one regional story told ten local ways.

The team coordinated with AIDP's leadership and the host health ministry on the event itself: programme, logistics for ministerial participation, collateral that explained the platform's objectives, and on-site media handling.

Media relations then ran country by country. Each market received the announcement in its own language, framed against its own TB burden and health priorities, and briefed to the reporters who cover health policy rather than to a single regional list.

The results

153pieces of media coverage across ASEAN
50%of coverage in tier-one media
100%positive tone with all key messages carried
34pieces of media coverage in Vietnam

Every piece of coverage carried the platform's key messages, giving AIDP a credible regional footprint from its first day.
