Tiger Beer x VannDa: A New Partnership Model
When Tiger Beer partnered with Cambodian artist VannDa and his label Baramey on his first solo stadium concert, the brand had to promote the event while managing the reputational risk of an alcohol partnership in an unregulated market. Ruder Finn Era reframed it as a cultural collaboration and trained spokespeople, shifting sentiment to celebrate a milestone for Cambodian music.
The challenge
VannDa's solo stadium concert was a first for Cambodian music, and Tiger Beer's involvement gave the brand a rare cultural moment. But partnering an alcohol brand with a young artist in a market without alcohol marketing regulation carried real reputational risk, for the brand and for the artist's integrity.
The brand needed to promote the event to the widest audience while protecting the artist and pre-empting the criticism that a commercial endorsement would attract.
Our solution
Ruder Finn Era's strategic choice was to reposition the partnership as a cultural collaboration between Tiger Beer, Baramey and VannDa, not a commercial endorsement: a brand backing a milestone for Cambodia's music industry rather than borrowing an artist's fans.
The team developed a cohesive messaging framework for media, guided all public communications around the event and trained spokespeople from the brand, the label and the artist's team to handle challenging questions with confidence, so that whoever was asked, the story stayed on the music and its meaning for Cambodia.
The results
Public and media sentiment shifted to celebrate the concert as a cultural milestone and a bold step for Cambodia's music industry.
