YCDC: Branding the Yangon Building Permit System

The Yangon City Development Committee, with IFC, was introducing YBPS, an online platform allowing architects, engineers and building professionals to apply for permits without visiting its offices. Ruder Finn Era created the brand logo, a billboard design and a three-minute animated video so the public could understand the new service at a glance.

The challenge

The Yangon City Development Committee was introducing YBPS, the Yangon Building Permit System, an online service that lets building professionals, architects and engineers apply for permits without visiting the YCDC office. Supported by IFC, the platform was a significant step in making the city's administration more transparent and efficient.

A digital service only delivers its benefits if people trust it and use it. YBPS needed an identity that signalled clearly that it was an official YCDC tool, and communications that explained its function to professionals accustomed to paper processes.

Our solution

Working within the YCDC brand guidelines, Ruder Finn Era, then ERA Communications, designed a logo that merged the YCDC building, known for its distinctive architecture, with modern buildings. The mark told the story in one image: a tool developed by YCDC for the city's future construction.

The team also created a Myanmar language translation so that the function of the system was clear at a glance, and extended the identity into a billboard design and a three-minute animated video that walked professionals through the new online process.
