APISWA: Responsible Drinking Asia

APISWA retained Ruder Finn Era to launch ResponsibleDrinkingAsia.com, the first science-based alcohol education website for Asia Pacific, across ten markets. The launch, timed with Moderation Week and The Road to 2030 report, combined video production, website development and media relations, securing more than 45 media stories across Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The challenge

Most countries in Asia Pacific have no national drinking guidelines. Public understanding of alcohol and health is shaped by misinformation, low awareness and inconsistent advice, which leaves consumers without a trusted reference and the industry without a credible voice in the moderation debate.

APISWA wanted a regional hub for alcohol education that would be taken seriously by health audiences and media: science-backed, culturally relevant and useful enough that people would actually use it. It needed to launch with enough visibility across ten markets to establish the platform as the reference point.

Our solution

The strategic choice was to borrow credibility from established models rather than invent a new format. The platform was inspired by science-based education sites in the UK and Australia and adapted for Asian drinking cultures. Ruder Finn Era supported the build of ResponsibleDrinkingAsia.com, including a self-assessment tool that helps users understand their own drinking patterns, and produced video content to bring the material to life.

Timing did the amplification work. The launch was aligned with Moderation Week and the release of The Road to 2030 report, giving media a news hook in each market. The regional team ran outreach in ten key markets, with Ruder Finn Era offices in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam securing the strongest coverage.
